A New Era for Retail: How Technowave Delivered 11,800 ESLs for Adcoops’ Flagship Supermarket in Abu Dhabi

When Adcoops envisioned their new flagship supermarket in Abu Dhabi, they dreamed of a retail space that wasn’t just bigger, but smarter. A store where prices changed in real time, promotions rolled out effortlessly, and shoppers experienced seamless convenience.

To achieve this, they decided to embrace Electronic Shelf Labels (ESLs) – a cutting-edge solution that would eliminate the limitations of traditional paper tags. But bringing such a vision to life across an entire store was no small feat. That’s where Technowave Group, in partnership with Zkong, stepped in.

This is the story of how Technowave helped transform this vision into reality, deploying over 11,800 ESLs, syncing 114,000 SKUs, and completing the project ahead of schedule for a successful grand opening on 17 July 2025.

The Challenge: A Tightrope Walk Between Innovation and Deadlines

From the very start, it was clear this project wasn’t going to be easy.

Every section of the supermarket had different needs.

The Vegetables, Fruits, Fish, Fresh Meat, and Food sections required larger ESLs in both white and black frames to ensure clear visibility, while other areas like the freezer, grocery, and general merchandise sections were equipped with smaller-sized ESLs suited to their shelving layouts.

And then there was the data. 114,000 SKUs had to be uploaded into the cloud platform, integrated with Adcoops’ SAP ERP system to ensure every price update and promotion flowed seamlessly from headquarters to shelf – in real time.

All of this had to happen within a tight schedule. The grand opening date was set, and there was no room for delay.

The Journey: From Vision to Execution

The journey began with careful planning and close collaboration between Technowave, Zkong, and Adcoops’ teams.

Designing the Perfect Fit
First came the task of selecting the right ESLs and accessories. Each section of the store was analyzed, and ESL sizes, colors, and mounting options were chosen to fit the aesthetics and functionality of their environments. Our design team worked tirelessly to create custom ESL templates, ensuring every price tag reflected Adcoops’ branding and enhanced shelf appeal.

Sample installations were presented for feedback. Adjustments were made until the Adcoops management team was fully satisfied with the look and feel.


Preparing the Groundwork
With designs approved, the focus shifted to logistics. ESL devices, rails, and accessories were delivered to the site. Technowave’s field teams worked around the clock, installing shelf rails across thousands of meters of shelving with precision and speed.

At the same time, our technical teams handled the backend integration. Uploading 114,000 SKUs to the cloud ESL platform was a monumental task. The integration with SAP ensured that every price, offer, and promotion could be updated instantly across the store.


The Big Rollout
As the store took shape, the installation of ESLs began in full force.

Over 11,800 ESLs of varying sizes and colors were deployed across every aisle and department. Each label was paired with the cloud system and rigorously tested to ensure flawless performance.

Despite the scale and complexity, the deployment ran like clockwork. The dedication of the Technowave team, combined with the support from Zkong, meant the work progressed faster than planned.

The Result: A Grand Opening to Remember

By the time the store’s grand opening day arrived on 17 July 2025, every ESL was live and fully operational.

The results were nothing short of transformative:

Real-time pricing: Prices could now be updated instantly across all shelves, eliminating manual errors.
Seamless promotions: Campaigns and discounts rolled out effortlessly.
Enhanced efficiency: Store staff were freed from the time-consuming task of replacing paper labels.
A premium shopping experience: Customers enjoyed clear, modern price displays that reflected the store’s high standards.

Adcoops’ management expressed their delight at how smoothly the implementation went – and the fact it was completed ahead of schedule made the achievement even sweeter.
