How far can an RFID antenna read tags?
There is no fixed reading distance for an antenna alone. Range depends on the reader, permitted transmit power, antenna gain, cable loss, tag design, orientation and environment.
Will an antenna work with any RFID reader?
Not automatically. The frequency band, connectors, impedance, power handling and reader manufacturer’s requirements must match. Some antenna systems also require specific reader support.
How many antennas do I need for a doorway or portal?
The number depends on the opening size, tag positions, item movement and required detection performance. Testing determines whether one antenna is sufficient or whether several viewing angles are needed.
Does a higher-gain antenna always give better results?
No. A more directional antenna may help reach a specific area but provide insufficient coverage elsewhere. It may also require a lower reader power setting to remain within permitted radiated-power limits.
Can UHF RFID antennas read NFC tags?
No. NFC operates at 13.56 MHz and requires compatible HF/NFC equipment. UHF RFID antennas are designed for a different frequency range.
