Circular polarisation is often useful when tag orientation varies. Linear polarisation can work well when tags remain consistently aligned. Neither option guarantees that every tag will be read in every position.

Gain and beamwidth

Higher gain generally concentrates energy into a more directional pattern. A wider beam may suit broader coverage at shorter distances. Select for the intended reading zone rather than choosing the highest gain available.

Reader connections and antenna cables

Check connector type, impedance, supported antenna configuration and cable length. Longer cables introduce signal loss, so cable selection and reader placement can affect performance.

Mounting and working environment

Consider mounting height, angle, available space, nearby metal, temperature and exposure to water or dust. Outdoor installations also require suitable cable connections and weather protection.

How far can an RFID antenna read tags?

Will an antenna work with any RFID reader?
