Westzone Supermarkets upgraded from manual shelf pricing to a connected digital pricing system using ZKONG Electronic Shelf Labels and full-color LCD promotional displays. The rollout supports instant ERP-connected price updates, stronger fresh-section visibility, and a repeatable deployment model now expanded across six Westzone stores.
Westzone Supermarkets required a pricing and promotion system that could support busy UAE supermarket environments where fresh categories, promotions, imported items, and daily operational changes happen quickly. The solution needed to improve price accuracy, protect brand presentation, and reduce the manual effort involved in replacing paper tags.
Technowave International implemented a connected ESL and LCD display environment using ZKONG technology. The rollout combined section-specific ESL templates, full-color hanging LCDs for high-visibility fresh zones, and ERP-connected updates so price and promotion changes could move across store displays quickly and consistently. Since the initial rollout, Westzone has expanded the solution to six stores: Al Mankhool, Al Nahda, Deira / Robinson branch, Al Qusais, Al Barsha and Jewel of the Creek.
Fresh food, bakery, meat, seafood, deli, and produce areas require frequent pricing updates. Manual paper tags can create delays, pricing mismatch risks, inconsistent brand presentation, and weak visibility in high-traffic sections.
The project was designed as a hybrid digital communication system. ESLs handled item-level shelf and counter pricing, while full-color LCD displays gave the produce and fresh areas a larger visual format for grouped product promotions.
After the initial ESL and LCD implementation, Westzone continued expanding the same digital pricing model across additional branches. This shows that the solution was not limited to a single pilot store; it became a repeatable store rollout model for Westzone’s supermarket operations.

Meat LCDThe project was not only about installing digital labels. Westzone needed an operating model that could handle dynamic content, brand governance, integration accuracy, and future-store scalability without requiring fresh development for each new branch.
LCDs had to support one, two, or three SKUs in a single display format while keeping product image, price and item description readable from a distance.
ESL and LCD templates needed to reflect Westzone’s color, font hierarchy, product category logic and promotion communication style.
Paper tags and small shelf displays were not strong enough for high-traffic produce aisles, where shoppers need fast price visibility.
Price and promotion changes had to flow from Westzone’s ERP to the ZKONG display ecosystem with preview and audit control.
Imported fruits and vegetables required a curated image library so digital communication matched the correct product visually.
The second branch needed to use the same system model with installation and SKU mapping rather than new custom coding.
“For Westzone, the value was not only replacing paper price tags. The real improvement came from instant price updates, brand-controlled promotion templates, better in-store visibility and a rollout method that could be repeated across multiple branches.”
Technowave created ESL and LCD templates for fresh departments including butchery, deli, seafood and bakery. The system supported bilingual communication, category cues, promotional formatting and Westzone brand consistency.
Dual-sided hanging LCDs were installed to improve visibility in fresh areas. Each unit could display three items per side, allowing up to six SKUs per display unit and making promotions more visible to shoppers.
Technowave’s software team developed a pricing application linking Westzone’s ERP with ZKONG Cloud. The workflow supports centralized updates, previews and audit logs to help protect pricing accuracy.
A standardized deployment kit was prepared, including ESL/LCD templates, fixture and power guidance, content formatting standards and a go-live runbook covering survey, AP planning, pilot validation and activation.
The first deployments introduced ESL coverage and LCD displays at fresh counters. Hanging LCDs were added in produce and fresh sections to replace paper price communication with a stronger digital format.
Since then, Westzone has continued the rollout across Al Mankhool, Al Nahda, Deira / Robinson branch, Al Qusais, Al Barsha and Jewel of the Creek, proving the model can scale beyond a single location.
The project delivered an operationally stronger and visually cleaner pricing system for Westzone. It reduced dependence on manual paper tag changes while giving the store team better control over branded, accurate, and high-visibility communication.
Unified ESL and LCD layouts helped Westzone keep pricing and promotion presentation consistent across fresh and supermarket sections.
Price changes that previously depended on manual replacement can now move through a centralized connected workflow.
Hanging LCDs created stronger visibility in produce and fresh departments, helping shoppers see promotions more clearly.
The expansion to six Westzone stores proved that the system could be replicated using device installation and SKU mapping rather than repeated custom work.
Preview and audit log support helped the team validate updates before and after changes were pushed to the display network.
Clear prices, product images, and digital promotions reduced confusion and supported a more modern supermarket experience.
This project shows how supermarkets can move beyond basic shelf labels and use a connected digital communication system across high-traffic departments. The combination of ESL and LCD displays makes the solution especially useful for fresh categories where both item-level pricing and larger promotional visibility are needed.
For retail teams, the main advantage is operational control. Prices, promotions, product images and section-specific layouts can be managed with stronger consistency, reducing dependency on manual paper tag replacement.
Technowave International supported the project with hardware deployment, template strategy, software integration and rollout standardization. The result was not only a working installation but a repeatable operating model that Westzone has now applied across six store locations.
This makes the Westzone project a practical case study for supermarkets, hypermarkets and grocery chains looking to modernize pricing, reduce manual work and improve promotional communication.
