Which RFID tag for which surface?

The surface you stick a tag on matters more than any other factor. Metal reflects radio waves and liquids absorb them, so the wrong tag simply will not read. Use this as a starting point; we will confirm with your items.

Surface or itemRecommended tagWhy
Cardboard, paper, plasticUHF RFID sticker or inlayStandard paper or synthetic face; the most economical option.
Metal surfacesOn-metal RFID tagA spacer or special antenna stops the metal from blocking the signal.
Liquids and glassLiquid-tolerant or on-metal tagWater absorbs UHF energy, so tag choice and placement matter.
Fabric and garmentsHang tag, care label or sewn-in labelRemovable at the till, or permanent for the life of the garment.
Linen and uniformsLaundry RFID tagBuilt to survive repeated washing, drying, pressure and ironing.
Outdoor and harsh sitesRugged hard tagUV, dust and impact resistant; screwed, riveted or cable-tied.
Small, high-value itemsJewellery or micro tagSmall form factor for rings, watches and small parts.
People and accessWristband or cardHF or NFC for door access and payment; UHF for longer-range reads.

How much do RFID tags cost?

There is no single price for an RFID tag. A simple UHF sticker in volume is a small fraction of the cost of a rugged on-metal or laundry tag. These six factors decide your price. Send us your item, quantity and country and we will quote the right tag.

Tag construction

A paper sticker inlay costs far less than an on-metal, laundry or rugged hard tag.

Quantity

Unit price falls as volume rises. Bulk orders for retail and logistics get the lowest price per tag.

Chip and memory

The IC chip, its memory size and features such as password protection change the price.

Printing and encoding

Blank tags cost less. Custom printing, barcodes and pre-encoded EPC numbers add a small cost per tag.

Face material and adhesive

Paper, PET or fabric faces and permanent or removable adhesives for your surface.

Environment

Heat, washing, chemicals or outdoor UV exposure require tougher, more specialised tags.

Printed, encoded and ready to apply

An RFID tag is only useful once the chip holds the right data. We can supply tags printed with your design and encoded with your numbering, or set you up with RFID printers to print and encode on demand.

  1. 1

    Design

Your logo, text, barcode or QR code, printed by direct thermal or thermal transfer.

  2. 2

    Encode

Your EPC numbers, serials or URLs written into the RFID or NFC chip.

  3. 3

    Verify

Each tag is read back to check that the chip and the printed data match.

  4. 4

    Apply

Tags arrive ready to use, or you print and encode on site with your own RFID printer.

RFID tag FAQs

How much does an RFID tag cost?

It depends on the tag type, chip, quantity, printing and encoding, and the environment it must survive. A plain UHF sticker bought in volume costs much less than an on-metal, laundry or rugged hard tag. Send us your item, quantity and country and we will quote the right tag.

Which RFID tag brands do you supply?

We supply RFID tags and labels from Zebra, Avery Dennison, HID, Xerafy and Beontag, and recommend the right brand and model for your items, surface and budget.

Where can I buy RFID tags and stickers in Dubai?

Technowave supplies RFID tags, labels and stickers from Dubai to customers across the UAE and the GCC. Send us the item, quantity and country and we will recommend the right tag and send you a quote.

What is the difference between UHF, HF and NFC tags?

UHF tags read from several metres away and many at once, so they suit stock counts, logistics and asset audits. HF and NFC tags read at a few centimetres and work with smartphones, so they suit access cards, payments and product authentication.

Which RFID tag works on metal?

Use an on-metal RFID tag. Standard stickers do not read on metal because the surface reflects the signal; on-metal tags have a spacer or special antenna designed for it.

Do you have RFID tags for clothing and laundry?

Yes. We supply apparel hang tags and care labels for retail stock control, and laundry tags built for repeated industrial washing, drying and ironing of linen and uniforms.

Can you print our logo and encode our data on the tags?

Yes. Tags can be printed with your logo, text, barcodes or QR codes and encoded with your EPC numbers, serials or URLs, then verified before delivery.

What is the minimum order quantity?

It depends on the tag type and whether it is printed or encoded. Tell us the quantity you need and we will confirm the options for that volume.

Do you supply RFID tags outside the UAE?

Yes. We supply customers across the GCC: the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman and Bahrain.

Do you also supply RFID readers and printers?

Yes. We supply handheld and fixed RFID readers, antennas and RFID printers, plus software for retail, warehouse and asset management.
